The history of WTO started already in 1977 when the founder of the company, Werner Tschiggfrei, developed the first multiple spindle heads for Machining Centers with automatic tool change. It was a world sensation and the start of a new epoch.
But the real history of WTO begins in 1983 with the foundation of WTO Werkzeug-Einrichtungen GmbH located in Offenburg/Germany and the design and manufacturing of toolholders for metal cutting. 1998 WTO established a new and larger manufacturing facility located in Ohlsbach/Germany. This village is where WTO, as the world market leader, designs and manufactures the static and driven precision toolholders for Turning Centers, Lathes, Swiss Type, Multi Spindle Turning Centers and Ultra-High Speed Spindles.
WTO is growing continuously and invests annually in new technologies, machines and buildings. At the headquarters in Ohlsbach, the manufacturing area has increased by six times since 1998.
In 2021, the largest expansion in the company's history will be completed: Of the approx. 14,000 m² (~150,695 square foot) expansion, approx. 9,000 m² (~97,000 square foot) are accounted for by the “Smart Factory” with the latest industry 4.0 production technology and approx. 5,000 m² (~54,000 square foot) by the new office building with a view of the castle.
