WTO invested 40 million Euro at the Ohlsbach location for the most modern "Smart Factory" in the region and an office building with a view of the castle. In the 14,000 m² (150,000ft²) expansion, approximately 9,000 m² (100,000ft²) are allocated to the "Smart Factory" with the latest Industry 4.0 production technology, and 5,000 m² (50,000 ft²) are dedicated to office space with a view to the castle.
The Smart Factory, occupied in 2021, is above all also a "Green Factory". It is intended to set a milestone in state-of-the-art manufacturing technology and environmental protection here in the region. "We have been using renewable energies for production at the Ohlsbach site for years. The experience we have gained so far has enabled us to further expand the use of renewable energies for production in the new Smart Factory," says WTO CEO, Sascha Tschiggfrei. For example, by using energy from groundwater for cooling and from waste process heat for heating, a total of 3.8 gigawatt hours of energy can be saved per year, which corresponds to a reduction in CO2 emissions of 445 tons.
The new office building provides a modern and pleasant working environment for WTO employees. The architect group Grossmann has designed a unique building for this purpose, which perfectly integrates modern architecture into the dreamlike landscape. All offices are flooded with light and have a "castle view". This “castle view” extends to the stylish company restaurant ("WTO Bistro") with freshly prepared meals and a large fitness room in order to promote employee well-being.
